"This course will help you to embrace creative experimentation and play with new materials. Once I show you how you can manipulate hot wax to flow and meld together to create the most beautiful transparent colors you will no longer be overwhelmed. You will not be able to stop playing all afternoon. You will learn how to make your own paint and mediums along with what equipment I use to melt and create my paintings. You will learn how to make prints using hot wax by working on an aluminum plate specifically made for this medium. I will introduce you to all the heating tools I use that were created for this medium and all the household ones I decided to work just fine. I will teach you how to paint with Irons, electric bushes and hog hairbrushes on Paper, cradle board and matt board with hot wax. You will combine collage paper, inks w/c and pastel to see how well they work with hot wax. We will talk about some history on encaustic and safety."
Materials will be supplied by the instructor for a materials fee of $60.00. Please bring your materials fee with you on the day of the course.
(Includes all your substrates, paper, rice paper, wood board mat board, 10 different colours of encaustic wax including white and clear medium. These are your supplies anything left over from the workshop are yours.)
Each student must bring
- Lunch
- An old clothing iron, (to be used only for encaustic)
- Paper towels
- A few collage papers (you will be working on 2 -5x5 board)
- Ink
- Water color
- Glue
- Scissors
If you want to combine some other medium with your encaustic then bring it with you!
